According to Bwizer, the deadlift, is one of three classic powerlifts (as well as squat and bench press). Requires pulling a bar from the floor to a fully locked position.
All of these powerlifts are cross training base motions and are increasingly popular for their advantages. Here are three reasons to start deadlifting, whether you practice Cross Training or not!
1. Deadlifts require work from multiple muscle groups - so by incorporating this exercise once or twice a week into a strength training session, we can strengthen hamstrings, glutes, lower back and upper back.
2. Substantially increase strength gain: This type of training generates huge improvements in strength and stability.
3. Contribute to injury prevention: Some people avoid deadlifts for fear of back injuries. However, this exercise can be beneficial in reducing lower back pain by training muscles such as deep abdominals, hips and pelvis.
Ideally, you should then learn the movement (with very light load) and acquire a correct technique so that you can incorporate it later in your strength training!
